After a sellout, rave-reviewed season in Melbourne, this lush, romantic, and transporting portrait of an Australian icon – the irrepressible Sunday Reed – is having its Sydney premiere. Described as a “brilliantly realised ode to some of the most important figures in modern Australian art” (Limelight), Sunday is an instant classic.

Written by the acclaimed playwright Anthony WeighSunday is inspired by the stories and myths of the Heide Circle – the renowned group of friends, lovers, and rivals that produced some of this country’s most beloved visual artists, including Albert Tucker and Joy Hester. It is also the story of the torrid and passionate affair between Reed – played by Nikki Shiels (The Picture of Dorian Gray) – and the Circle’s most famous member, Sidney Nolan, played by Josh McConville (Do not go gentle...).

Beautifully directed by Sarah Goodes (Julia), this grand, Melbourne Theatre Company production is a gorgeous collision of love, politics, history and art. And, just like its magnetic, unconventional and audacious protagonist, Sunday is enchanting.
